Interpretation Notes
In this release, I revisit one of Mozart’s most dramatic and emotionally charged piano sonatas.
This release presents a live performance of Mozart’s Piano Sonata in C Minor, K. 457. While there are several well-regarded modern editions of this sonata, I deliberately chose not to rely on their editorial suggestions. Instead, I turned directly to Mozart’s own handwritten manuscript. In studying it, I discovered subtle yet significant details that deeply influenced and reshaped my interpretation.
One of the interpretative challenges in this sonata lies in balancing its stormy intensity with Classical elegance; what I like to call Mozartisery, that light and honest sense of emotional clarity so distinct in his music. I was especially drawn to the second movement’s introspection and how it contrasts with the outer movements’ passion and drive.
Following Mozart’s Piano Sonata in C Minor, K. 457, I performed a selection of Rachmaninoff’s Études and Preludes, offering a dramatic shift in style and emotional palette that both contrasts with and complements Mozart’s Classical voice.
